One of the most exciting pieces of science behind the SPX Complex™ involves specialized pro-resolving mediators, or SPMs. Think of SPMs as part of your body’s built-in system for turning down inflammation and returning tissue toward balance. They are signaling molecules involved in resolving the inflammatory response, reducing oxidative stress, and supporting tissue recovery. In other words, instead of simply masking how an irritated scalp looks or feels on the surface, the science is focused on the biological processes happening within the scalp itself. The SPX Complex™ brings together scalp-focused actives selected around that philosophy. One of them is Aniseed Myrtle extract, with ingredient-level research showing increased production of SPMs alongside decreased inflammatory mediators. The research behind the active also demonstrated improvements in scalp measures including sebum, dandruff appearance, scalp pH, and hair brightness. So when we talk about “scalp health,” we aren’t talking about throwing peppermint into a shampoo so your head tingles. Yes. RINSED underwent a Human Repeat Insult Patch Test evaluated under a board-certified dermatologist. The test returned zero observed sensitivity markers. It's one of the less glamorous results we have, and one of the ones we're most proud of.

Not entirely, and that’s deliberate. “Natural fragrance” sounds reassuring. Chemically, it isn’t automatically safer, cleaner, or gentler. Natural fragrance materials can contain complicated mixtures of volatile compounds, and their natural origin doesn’t stop those compounds from being irritating or sensitizing. Poison ivy is natural. So are plenty of allergens. We weren’t interested in choosing an ingredient philosophy because the word looked good on the front of a bottle. A properly engineered fragrance gives a formulator far greater control over the composition, concentration, and safety parameters of what actually touches your scalp. So we worked extensively on Scent 01, including reformulating it to meet IFRA standards. We chose the approach we believed gave us the best combination of safety, consistency, performance, and scent rather than chasing a “100% natural” badge. The goal was never natural for natural’s sake. The goal was better. Scent 01: Cypress · Sea Salt · Wild Sage.

RINSED is vegan, and we're currently completing the third-party certification process for our broader cruelty-free standards. We take ingredient sourcing, manufacturing, and testing standards seriously, and we'll add the appropriate certification mark once that independent process is complete.

RINSED is sulfate-free and built around an exceptionally gentle cleansing system, which are both qualities people with color-treated hair often look for in a wash. That said, coloring processes and professional treatments vary significantly.
